Best Later alternatives in 2026

By Jake Luo · Published Jul 17, 2026

Later is the best visual planner in the category and it isn't especially close. The drag-and-drop Instagram grid preview — seeing your feed before it exists — is genuinely differentiated UX, not scheduler boilerplate. Linkin.bio is a mature product rather than a bolted-on afterthought. For an Instagram-, TikTok- or Pinterest-first brand, the planning experience is the reason to be here, and none of the alternatives below match it.

The fact that decides this for a lot of people: Later doesn't schedule X/Twitter. Support ended on 28 August 2025 — Later's own help centre documents it, and their stated reason was the cost of X's API terms rather than raise prices for everyone. That's been in force for nearly a year now. It isn't a change to weigh; it's a settled fact. If X is in your channel mix, the rest of this page is a formality and you should pick from it. The current platform list is Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat.

The other reasons people leave are narrower: team collaboration is a real weak spot — reviewers describe it as a solo-creator tool that doesn't scale to multi-person review — the Starter plan caps you at 30 posts per profile per month, analytics are thin for larger organisations, and priority support is gated to the $82.50 Scale tier. Worth knowing too: Later rebranded in February 2026 and now positions itself around creator intelligence and influencer marketing, not pure scheduling. Pricing below was read from later.com in July 2026.

    Buffer

The obvious answer if you left over X. It still schedules X/Twitter, plus Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads — a broader network list than Later's — and it's the cheapest real tool here.

    Pros
    • Still supports X/Twitter, which is the whole reason most people are reading this page
    • Free plan for 3 channels; Essentials is $5/month per channel
    • Broader network coverage than Later, including Bluesky and Mastodon
    Cons
    • Per-channel pricing gets expensive past roughly 6–8 channels
    • No visual grid planning that comes close to Later's
    • Analytics and listening are shallower than Sprout or Hootsuite
Pricing: Free (3 channels); Essentials $5/channel/mo; Team $10/channel/moBest for: Anyone who left Later because X went away

    Metricool

The multi-brand budget pick. Unifies social, ads and web analytics, priced per brand — and it keeps X, though not for free.

    Pros
    • Cheapest multi-brand option: Starter $25/mo ($20 annual) covers up to 10 brands with unlimited scheduling
    • Unifies social, ad and web analytics in one dashboard
    • Keeps X/Twitter — full X analytics on Advanced
    Cons
    • X isn't free even on paid tiers — it's a paid add-on (around $5/mo per connected X Premium account)
    • Free plan excludes LinkedIn and X entirely
    • Denser UI than Buffer or Later
Pricing: Free (1 brand, 20 posts/mo); Starter $25/mo ($20 annual, 10 brands); Advanced $67/mo ($53 annual, 15 brands)Best for: Freelancers and agencies running several client brands on a budget

  3. #3

    SocialBee

Content categorisation and evergreen recycling — the feature Later has no answer for. Direct X posting on every tier.

    Pros
    • Evergreen content recycling by category is genuinely useful and Later doesn't do it
    • X/Twitter direct posting on all tiers
    • Bootstrap $29/mo covers 5 profiles
    Cons
    • No visual grid planning — you're giving up Later's main strength
    • Fewer integrations and less brand recognition than Hootsuite or Sprout
    • Profile caps per tier rather than per channel
Pricing: Bootstrap $29/mo (5 profiles); Accelerate $49/mo (10 profiles); Pro $99/mo (25 profiles); Agency $149–449/moBest for: Solo operators who want evergreen recycling and need X

  4. #4

    Hootsuite

The step up when Later's team weakness is what broke. Real approvals, a unified inbox, and monitoring — at a price that reflects all three.

    Pros
    • Proper approval workflows and permissions — the direct fix for Later's collaboration gap
    • Unified inbox and brand monitoring built in
    • Mature enterprise controls; 14-day trial
    Cons
    • Standard is $99/user/month — more than five times Later's Starter
    • Per-seat pricing punishes exactly the multi-person teams it's aimed at
    • Steeper learning curve; no free plan since 2023
Pricing: Standard $99/user/mo; Professional $199/user/mo; Advanced $399/user/mo (annual billing)Best for: Teams who outgrew Later's single-reviewer model

    Sprout Social

The analytics answer. If you left because Later's reporting couldn't tell you anything, this is the category benchmark — priced accordingly.

    Pros
    • Category-leading reporting and social listening
    • Strong approval workflows for multi-stakeholder teams
    • Essentials $99/seat/mo ($79 annual) includes 5 profiles
    Cons
    • Per-seat cost escalates hard — Standard is $199/seat/month
    • Overkill for a solo creator or a small visual-first brand
    • Contract and auto-renewal complaints are its own recurring theme
Pricing: Essentials $99/seat/mo ($79 annual); Standard $199; Professional $299; Advanced $399Best for: Teams whose priority is analytics and listening, not planning

    AgentCeres

Listed last because it's a different shape and, on the X question, no better than Later. It's a managed AI marketing team: a specialist writes and schedules the posts, and a human approves each outbound one. It's here for the case where the calendar is empty rather than badly planned.

    Pros
    • Different gap: the specialist writes the posts, so the grid isn't empty waiting on you
    • Every outbound post is approval-gated by default
    • Social sits alongside SEO, ads and research specialists sharing the same product context
    • Flat pricing — no per-channel or per-seat metering
    Cons
    • No visual grid planning, no Linkin.bio, no media library — Later's entire strength is absent
    • Covers X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Reddit — so no Pinterest, TikTok, Threads or Snapchat, several of which Later does have
    • Not a scheduler you drive: there's no calendar UI to drag things around in
    • Wrong answer if you enjoy planning your grid and just need a better tool for it
Pricing: $19–$499/mo flat (annual $15–$399); 14-day trial, no cardBest for: Visual-first founders whose posts never get made in the first place

If you're here because of X, this is a short decision. Buffer is the answer — it still schedules X along with Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads, and it starts at $5 per channel. Metricool keeps X too but charges extra for it, and SocialBee includes direct X posting on every tier alongside evergreen recycling Later doesn't offer.

If X isn't your issue, match the actual break. Team collaboration fell apart → Hootsuite has real approvals and routing, though $99/user/month is a steep answer to a workflow problem. Analytics told you nothing → Sprout Social is the benchmark. You're juggling client brands → Metricool's per-brand pricing beats per-channel or per-seat every time.

And the honest case for staying. If you're Instagram-, TikTok- or Pinterest-first, X was never in your mix, and one person plans the content — Later is genuinely the best tool on this page and everything else is a downgrade on the thing you actually use it for. The grid preview and Linkin.bio have no real equivalent here. Its move into influencer marketing may even be a bonus if you run creator campaigns; none of the alternatives bundle that natively.

Our own entry is last, and on the X question we're no better than Later. AgentCeres isn't a scheduler — there's no calendar to drag posts around in, no grid preview, no media library. A specialist writes and schedules the posts and a human approves each outbound one, which only matters if your problem is that nothing gets written rather than that the tool is wrong. Be clear about the network gap before you consider it: we cover X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Reddit — no Pinterest, TikTok, Threads or Snapchat, and Later has several of those. For a Pinterest-first brand we're not a candidate at all.

First-party note: we run our own social this way, and the finding worth passing on is that approval is the load-bearing step, not drafting. A post that reads as machine-written costs more trust than it earns — which is why every outbound post waits for a person, and why we won't pitch this as a scheduler replacement.

FAQ

Does Later still support X/Twitter?
No. Later ended support for X (formerly Twitter) on 28 August 2025 — scheduling and analytics both. Later's own help centre documents it, and their stated reasoning was that continuing to support X's increasingly restrictive and expensive third-party API terms would have meant raising prices for everyone. It's been in force for nearly a year now, so this isn't a change to plan around; it's simply what Later is. Later's current platform list is Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat. If you need X, Buffer, SocialBee and Metricool all still support it.
What is the best Later alternative?
For most people leaving, Buffer — it still schedules X/Twitter plus Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads, and starts at $5/month per channel with a free tier for 3 channels. If you're managing several client brands, Metricool's per-brand pricing ($20/month annually for 10 brands) beats per-channel maths. If Later's team collaboration is what broke, Hootsuite at $99/user/month has real approval workflows. If you need analytics depth, Sprout Social. All checked July 2026.
How much does Later cost in 2026?
Billed yearly: Starter $18.75/month, Growth $37.50/month, Scale $82.50/month. Billed monthly those become $25, $50 and $110. There's no free plan, just a 14-day trial. Watch the limits rather than the headline: Starter covers 1 social set (8 profiles), 1 user and 30 posts per profile per month — roughly one post a day before you hit the ceiling. Growth doubles to 2 sets and 180 posts; Scale gives 6 sets, unlimited posts and, notably, is the only tier with priority support. Add-ons run $11.25/month per extra social set and $3.75/month per extra user.
Is Later good for teams?
It's the most consistent criticism of it. Reviewers describe Later as effectively a solo-creator tool that doesn't scale when several people need to contribute, review and approve content — and support is tiered, with priority support reserved for the $82.50/month Scale plan. Starter allows one user; Growth allows two. If multi-person review is central to how you work, Hootsuite or Sprout Social are built for it and Later isn't, regardless of how good the planning UI is.
How is AgentCeres different from Later?
Different job, and on the network question we're narrower, so this needs saying plainly. Later is a visual planning and scheduling tool: you plan the grid, it posts. AgentCeres is a managed AI marketing team where a social specialist writes and schedules the posts, with a human approving every outbound one — alongside SEO, ads and research specialists sharing the same product context. It has no grid preview, no Linkin.bio, no media library and no calendar UI. And the coverage gap matters: we handle X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Reddit, but not Pinterest, TikTok, Threads or Snapchat — several of which Later does. If you're a Pinterest- or TikTok-first brand, we're not an option. It only makes sense if the posts aren't getting written at all.
